Relaxation & Pain Relief

Under high heat, the body releases endorphins. The body’s natural pain-relieving chemical. Endorphins can help soothe pain. When your body temperature rises, blood vessels dilate, and circulation begins to increase. The increased blood flow accelerates the body’s natural healing process soothing aches and pains and speeding up the healing of cuts and bruises. Following any type of sporting activity, use the heat and steam of a sauna for muscle relaxation.

Stress Relief

Stress throughout our everyday lives can affect our health significantly. Studies show most of disease is stress-related. In 20 years of Finnleo surveying thousands of sauna users about why they use saunas – “stress relief” is the #1 most commonly cited “primary benefit.” Saunas can provide stress relief because it’s a secluded, warm environment without any distractions. Studies also show it helps induce a deeper sleep. After endorphins are released by raising your body temperature, they fall and facilitate sleep.

Detoxification & Skin Cleansing

Deep sweating has multiple health benefits. As the body temperature rises, the blood vessels dilate, causing increased blood flow which results in sweat. Sweat production is primarily for cooling the body and is composed of 99% water. Deep sweating in a sauna can help reduce lead, copper, zinc, nickel, and mercury. All toxins your body picks up from our environment. While toxins are being rid of your body, your skin is cleansed, and dead cells are replaced. Sweat also rinses bacteria out of the epidermal layer and sweat ducts which helps improve the capillary circulation.

Cardiovascular Improvement

As your body temperature rises in a sauna and your skin dilates; your cardiac output increases. After your sauna session, your cardiac rhythm decreases to below normal during the cooling-off stages. With regular usage, we begin to train our heart muscles and improve the heart rate/cardiac output while also influencing the regulatory system. Cardiovascular conditioning also occurs in multiple “innings” by rapidly changing temperature. After a sauna session, take a cool shower or a cool swim, your heart rate increases by as much as 60% – comparable to moderate exercise.

Weight Loss

Heat therapy and steam saunas cause sweating. The sweating process takes energy and energy is derived from the conversion of fat and carbohydrates in a process that burns calories. According to U.S. Army medical research (Ward Dean, M.D.), “A moderately conditioned person can easily sweat off 500 grams in a sauna in a single session, consuming nearly 300 calories in the process.” As well as cardiovascular improvement, speeding up your heart rate causes the body to demand more oxygen-requiring the body to convert more calories into energy.

Fighting Illnesses

Research shows saunas significantly reduce the incidence of colds and influenza. As the body temperature rises during heat therapy or steam, it produces white blood cells ore rapidly – which helps fight illnesses and kill viruses. Saunas can also relieve sinus congestion (especially steam saunas) due to the steam vapor action.

Tranquility

A sauna not only feels good, but it’s also good for you. Whether it’s relaxation you’re seeking, pain relief, cleansing, or weight loss; it all makes your body feel good. As we go through our daily stressful lives, the sauna provides a retreat and restore our body and soul. A sauna truly makes you “Feel Better”, “Look Better” and “Sleep Better.”
